THE COMPANY – Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills) is a strategic body that operates across the UK, working with employers, training providers and with trade associations and trade unions. In addition close working partnerships have been established with the UK Government, Scottish Government and the Assemblies in Northern Ireland and Wales and their skills departments. Representing key industries, Gas, Power, Water and Waste Management EU Skills’ prime role is to ensure that the provision of training meets not only the existing but also the future needs of these sectors.
In order to ensure that the skills and policy priorities of EU Skills are precisely aligned to implementation and delivery has necessitated a reorganisation at senior level. This has resulted in the creation of a single directorate with responsibility to engage with employers and stakeholders in order to create an effective market for training provision and training products. We are seeking an individual to take responsibility for this directorate and lead a team of experienced strategic managers deliver the necessary changes.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive the Engagement Director will;
- Influence employers on skills needs to the extent that employers have confidence that training providers and qualifications are fit for purpose.
- Match employers’ needs to the relevant local training market, which may involve generating a more effective local market.
- Influence senior management level government and government body stakeholders in the setting of economic policy relevant to skills development and skills policy development.
- Provide an influential contribution to the government debate around the skills agenda, working at director level and below.
- Determine funding opportunities consistent with the needs of employers and establish effective access routes also investigate any relevant project activities which carry government funding
- Work with the EU Business Development Director to gain employer support for products developed by EU to the extent that employers are prepared to implement and pay for products developed..
- Identify opportunities to engage with SMEs
- Contribute to a positive high performing environment and enable an experienced and effective team to exceed their expectations
